Khobar had not truly prospered until the oil was discovered in abundant quantities in the nearby wells. Up to that point of the city’s history it was not more than a few fisherman’s cottages scattered along the shores of the Rabian Gulf when a group of Arab Tribes migrated here in 1925.
A community, which had developed and survived then on fishing and pearl trading until the finding of oil within its vicinity in the thirties of the last century.
In 1935 Khobar’s shore was selected as a prime location to erect a pier for receiving the goods and machinery for the nearby oil field camp at Jebel Dhahran. Marking the milestone towards a bright future, this project was the first major construction works to take place in this quite village. Concrete and Glass buildings started to boost next to the humble vintage homes making Khobar in a short period of time a commercial and entertainment hub for the newcomers to the area.
A royal decree was ordered in 1942 to establish Khobar municipality aiming to make of it a leading metropolis and a recognized urban center on the Eastern shores of Saudi Arabia.
